This year’s national conference commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the start of Vatican II, and the 2012-2013 Year of Faith.
Fr Tim Finigan
Our keynote speaker is Fr Tim Finigan, parish priest of Blackfen in the UK. He tutors in sacramental theology at St John’s Seminary Wonersh, and he is also a tutor in Dogmatic Theology at St Hugh’s Charterhouse, Parkminster. Fr Finigan most recently addressed the Confraternity at the 2010 International Conference in Rome. He is known internationally for his blog, The Hermeneutic of Continuity.
Fr Finigan will speak on the following topics:
- Background, History and Aftermath of Vatican II: Understanding the Dynamics involved in the Council
- Trent and Vatican II Compared (Not Contrasted): Two moments of reform and Renewal in the Church.
- The Church, Sacrament and People of God: How the Council taught us to understand the Mystery of the Church.
- The Hermeneutic of Continuity: An Approach to Controversial Texts of the Council.
Bishop John Basil Meeking
Bishop Meeking is Bishop Emeritus of Christchurch, New Zealand. In his retirement, he has graciously led ACCC-organised priests’ retreats in 2009 and 2010. The Bishop will give the address at the conference dinner on his experience of life in Rome during the years of the Second Vatican Council.
Fr John Flader
Fr Flader is a priest of Opus Dei. He has served as chaplain of Warrane College, RMIT University, the University of Tasmania, Montgrove College, and as Director of the Catholic Adult Education Centre, Sydney. Fr Flader will speak on “Journey into Truth”: Adult Faith Formation.
